Even as a therapist, seeking counseling is essential for managing second-hand trauma, compassion fatigue, and personal mental health.

In this essay, I explore my complicated relationship with mindfulness—both as a client in therapy and as a counselor recommending it to others—only to realize how much I needed it myself.

With the guidance of my own therapist, I’m learning to embrace stillness, sit with my thoughts, and use mindfulness as a tool for both emotional regulation and spiritual connection.
