A Therapist’s Book List on Infertility and Reproductive Mental Health

Both in and outside of the counseling office, I’m a big nerd with a chaotic TBR list (that’s “To Be Read” for the uninitiated). I’m always collecting books on infertility, reproductive loss, and postpartum mental health - weeding out the duds and keeping the gems. My hope is to find resources that genuinely help the people I work with, and occasionally, I’ll throw a bad one across the room so you don’t have to. That’s the kind of friend I am.

This year, I gathered up a long list of books about infertility, reproductive loss, and postpartum experiences that were recommended by other therapists, clients, and friends. And since I can’t resist a good review session, I’ve written my honest thoughts on each one - the good, the bad, and the “why did I read this?” moments.

In this Substack post, I explore:

  • The most helpful (and least helpful) infertility books for clients

  • What therapists and helping professionals might appreciate about each title

  • How humor, faith, and compassion show up in writing about infertility

  • Why inclusive, updated resources in reproductive mental health are still so needed

If you’re a clinician or client looking for trustworthy mental health reads, this list is a great place to start. And if you want to learn more about how I support individuals and couples navigating infertility, explore my counseling services here.
